Middle School

6G- students learn basic skills in accurate notation, symbols and signs as used in music. 
7G- students learn basic pitch symbols and sound, as well as more elaborate aspects of the language of music. Performances include: singing in unison/parts; use of tuned/unturned percussion instruments. 
8G- Standard program based on a wide range of educational experiences. Performances include: Aside from in school events, an opera at the San Carlo Theater is produced annually.

6G- the program reflects the school’s ethos and philosophy of promoting a global perspective/understanding and appreciation of the natural environment. The countries studied include: North Africa, The Middle East, Greece, Italy, India and China. 
7G- students study different types of biomes in further detail.
8G- students study physical, human and environmental geography with special attention paid to forms of government.

6G- History is taught using an international approach. The aim is to develop the concepts of: time, cause and consequence, continuity and change throughout the course of recorded history. Topics include: Pre-historic man, Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, Greece/Crete and the Roman Empire. 
7G- students learn skills including: chronology, source analysis skills and presentation of
information. Periods studied : Feudal Europe, Medieval Europe, The Renaissance,
The Reformation and The Enlightenment.
8G- The objective is to instill interest and enthusiasm for historical events. Students acquire knowledge commensurate with ability.

The school’s language priority is English. The program teaches the five key language learning skills of: reading, writing, speaking, listening and vocabulary. 
6G- Grammar, Narrative Writing and classic novels are done. 
7G- This course also teaches the five language learning skills. Students read three novels during the year, and do reading/writing tasks related to the novels. Narrative expression and poetry are included. 8G- Focusing on contemporary issues, students are encouraged to reflect on social concerns and express themselves verbally. Strong emphasis is placed on students realizing their full potential. Novels are read and writing exercises include: brainstorming, drafting, editing and proof-reading.

In accordance with current educational standards, we teach Spanish as a second language to all students. Learning a new language not only helps students to improve linguistically, but also promotes acceptance of different cultures. 
6G- Physical descriptions, asking questions, likes/dislikes and basic vocabulary are taught. 
7G- Students continue to build vocabulary and make simple oral presentations. 
8G- Students develop a sound foundation and are able to take language qualification tests.

Math is taught using a holistic approach to ensure that students learn to appreciate the value of the material and its relation to everyday life. 
6G-Numbers, patterns/functions, data, measurement and shape are taught.
7G- Students study Math in a historical context, and explore teachings from other countries. Studied concepts include: Algebraic expressions, equation solving, spatial thinking, area/volume and right triangles. 
8G- The basic feature of the program is the universal language present in Math. Topics: Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Statistics, Probability and Discrete Math.

Computers are used to find information for papers and other creative activities. The Library helps children to see books as helpful work tools. 
7G- Students use communication devices to explore how they work and their effect on society. Library skills: note-taking, extracting/organizing information are taught. 
8G- Students study the media in all its forms. Leaflets, posters, TV and radio are used.

The aim of the program is to promote lifelong participation in physical activities as well as gaining increased physical awareness.
 6G- Team sports, sportsmanship, proper diet and hygiene are taught. 
7G- Team sports, origin of sports, sportsmanship, new exercise programs make up the areas of study. 
8G- Dance/aerobics, isometrics, hygiene, social skills and classic sports are done.

Science: 
Learning scientific concepts is done through manipulation, observation, experimentation and conclusion.
6G- A general course is offered which includes: the earth, climate, solar system and hypothesis forming. 
7G- More complex material is introduced to include Ecology and energy forms. 
8G- More in-depth studies are done on: Chemical reactions, motion and forces, sound and light waves and
electricity.
